The mission of the Entrepreneurship Development Cells is to "Develop institutional mechanism to create entrepreneurial culture in science & technology academic institutions to develop technocrat entrepreneurs for generation of wealth and employment ".

The Department of Science & Technology, Government of India set up the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) in the year 1982. The Board has been trying to set up institutional mechanisms, which could act as support system for technocrat entrepreneurs. Te scheme for establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Cells (EDCs) in academic institutions was one such initiative taken by the NSTEDB in 1986-87. Already, EDCs have been established in more than 30 academic institutions. It is now felt to look at the concept of EDCs afresh so that these could meet the challenges posed by the current era of economic liberalisation and globalisation. Thus, the new/revised guidelines have been evolved.

The Society of Jesus, a Christian Religious Order founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1540, has been active in the field of education throughout the world since its origin. In the world the Society of Jesus is responsible for over 1865 Educational Institutions in 65 countries. These Jesuit Educational Institutions engage the efforts of approximately 98,000 teachers, who educate approximately 17,92,000 students.
